**Disclosure: I received a BIC back to school prize pack in order to facilitate this review and giveaway. My LOVE for writing tools in this post is 100% my honest opinion because I am a HUGE fan of BIC!**
Since I was a very young girl I have been intrigued by any tool that we use to write. My go-to was a beautiful smooth pen that glided across my paper without any smudge. If I had to use a pencil, it had to be a certain length and perfected point and I found myself appreciating the strength of the wood between my thumb and pointer, giving me extra power to deliver my words. As the years have passed and my writing has become more intense, my tools still remain with me. I have upgraded a bit and changed my style but when all is said and done, I still prefer to deliver my words with a pen, pencil, marker, and even a colored pencil at times (staying away from red always- it’s a personal choice). I fight for my write to remain in the analog era that brought me where I am today and BIC reinforces and applauds that!
Technology has really taken away the personal feel of that pen and paper connection for many. For me, I won’t allow it to. I do the same with my boys even when many insist the world is dominated by keyboards and just a tap of our finger. When we sit together during homework time or in any moment I find, I remind them of the importance of pen on paper, the personal touch a hand-written letter brings, how much one appreciates a short note of thank you, and the time that it takes to develop our words and the satisfaction that a good tool brings to our writing. They see me on the computer everyday but they see me writing the “old fashioned way” more. My days of journaling NEVER ended and when I attend writing conferences, my pad and pen (or pencil) are always at the ready.
When I write I know there is no other handwriting like mine, it makes me who I am and proud of what I have evolved into. I want my boys to have that same sense of empowerment and creativity when they are writing. I look forward to receiving written letters (not an email!) from them for every special holiday. Today, in a time of technology overload, I have them write birthday cards, letters and thank you’s all with their favorite writing tools. I fight for their write!
I appreciate the mission behind BIC because, through Fight For Your Write, they are reminding us of what I remind my boys everyday. Handwriting improves cognitive development, increases self-confidence, helps better school performance, strengthens reading skills, sparks creativity (something it’s always done for me) and sharpens critical thinking skills. Who wouldn’t want that for their child? What’s even more near and dear to my heart is that for every signature collected, BIC will donate a pen or pencil to students in need across the country through their partnership with AdoptAClassroom.org. How’s that for awesomeness????
Having been a teacher for many years, I know how critical it is to have those writing tools in the classroom and at home. My home was filled with writing tools but unfortunately not every child’s is. Check out AdoptAClassroom.org and see how you can help those in need. I haven’t lost my spark for writing and neither should anyone else. Let’s make a difference together and Fight For Our Write!

I don’t know, but if it’s in pencil it would be heartfelt and in cursive letters.

I’d write a thank you note to Mom & Dad for always believing in me and investing in my education. I’d use BIC highlighters to emphasize what it has meant to me 🙂

I write a love note to my husband every night he works late and is home after I’m asleep. It usually says something like, “I love you” or “I need you,” but occasionally, it’s just a heart with our initials in it <3. Keeping the romance alive one handwritten note at a time 😉
