The other day I saw a tweet reminding me of what I already know and what I live by: I must write because I want to, not just because. I truly feel if you’re not motivated to write, then you shouldn’t. That even goes for sponsored posts because those posts are personal too. Many may think you’re just writing for the money but that isn’t the case, at least not for me. I have to feel a REAL connection to the product or the brand and feel genuinely compelled to share in order to write. But where does that motivation come from?
Here are some things that work for me. These are a few tips and tricks that help me find my writing inspiration and support me to write with a purpose:
What’s taking place in my life
Some bloggers/writers want to be private about their personal lives but let’s face it, once you’re writing and putting yourself out there on the internet, well, there is no holding back. If we sit and think about what we may be going through, it might be something that others might be going through as well. By writing about what is happening and how we feel at that moment, we could be helping someone out. When I talk about my son with special needs or myself as a teacher who is upset with the system, I only hope that someone can relate and draw inspiration to speak up as well.
Things that I have read or have taken place
When I read a book or when I hear something in the news, it often sparks my inside voice. Reading and observing help me to relate to others and to get my creative juices flowing so why not share my thoughts and feelings with my readers, right? I think it’s important for us to voice our opinion and have a journal, a website or hell, why not even a book?
Find Inspiration in everything
I try to find inspiration in everything around me. I want to take it all in because I know in life, our time is limited. We only have one to live and it’s relatively short, right? I try to find the positive in everything, even if it frustrates me or I want to give up (we all want to give up at some point). I take some time to think about whatever is around me and look at it in an entirely different light. This process generates new thoughts and writing inspiration from pretty much everything I encounter.
I would be lying to you if I told you that I didn’t want to post three times a week but if I am at a loss for words, I won’t do it. Why would you want to read shit and why would I subject myself to writing it? Just to meet some recommended quota for bloggers? No. So this is just to remind you bloggers out there that you aren’t being frowned upon if you don’t post daily, weekly or how ever often you want to post but can’t find it in you to do so. If people like what you have to say and you keep it real, they will find their way back to you and your content. Just like you will find your voice and it will find its way right back onto your keyboard, flowing from your inspired mind to your unstoppable fingers. Those fingers will pound on that keyboard again, filtering out all you need to say…in due time it will come back you just wait and see! In the meantime, don’t force it. Try my tips above to see if the inspiration comes. Trust me, it will.
