Optimism Over Pessimism Any day!

March 27, 2013 By Eileen Carter-Campos

Face it, there are many times that we have ran into issues that are totally unexpected. They can leave us feeling drained and questioning ourselves and our sense of positivity. We have to remember that, “everything happens for a reason” and quite frankly I have come to the realization that, “what doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger”. This is why I choose Optimism over Pessimism any day!

Whatever ball is thrown in my court I receive it with open arms and as I like to say, “keep it movin!”. I always tell others to do the same as well- never let negativity hold you down, therefore DO NOT have a negative attitude. You must approach negative issues with a “I got this” type of attitude and you will make it through. A few things that help me remain optimistic are:

Talk and write my feelings down

This is always helpful for me. Writing is my escape system and my freedom in all I do. No one answers back and I am able to express my thoughts without any interruptions. I am able to go back and reflect on what I wrote and analyze why I was feeling a certain way. Great memories to have if you ever get back down in a slump- you know exactly how to lift yourself right back up again.

Having a strong support system

This is key to me. You may have a group of friends that are able to pick you up when you’re feeling a bit down or remind you of all the wonderful you are and have. You want to surround yourself with those people who find all the goodness in you and feed you positive energy. Who needs someone that contradicts everything you say? Brings you down, or reminds you about the reason you may be feeling all sorts of negative.

Take a break and enjoy all you have. Many times in life we need time to remind ourselves of what we have. Zero in on the positive that has taken place in our lives instead of daunting on the negative. Emphasize all of one’s magnificent accomplishments and be your own cheerleader. I am guilty of not doing this myself but slowly writing it down and remembering those strong hurdles that I have overcome leads me to celebrate the survival of them.

Pessimism is bound to creep up on any of us- life isn’t perfect! We need to stand strong and firm and remember we control what we accept and we must accept OPTIMISM!!
